School Safety Info

Dear Families,

In light of the unfortunate recent school shootings and because I am sure it has been on your mind the last few days, I thought I would take a moment to share a little bit about emergency preparedness at Creekside to hopefully put your mind somewhat at ease...

  • Our safety plan addresses all types of possible disasters including earthquake, active shooter, fire, hazmat (shelter), bomb threat, unsafe activity in nearby community (like bank robbery), and more.
  • We don't publish the specifics of the plan publicly to prevent our plan getting into the hands of the wrong person.
  • We practice different emergency drills multiple times throughout the school year.
  • Our School Site Council (which is comprised of five staff and five parents) update and review the emergency plan at least once per year.
  • We make updates to our plan after almost every drill because we learn from every drill!
  • We have emergency supplies in our supply container located outside of the school building including first aide kits, water, and food. This would be utilized if we had a sustained emergency such as a large earthquake that prevented parents from picking up kids for some time.
  • We have classroom emergency kits too!
  • Each classroom has an emergency radio so that we can communicate in case of loss of power or other unforeseen event. Each school has five emergency radios that allow us to communicate across our whole school district without using cell towers/power in case of loss of both.
  • We have an emergency hard-wired phone in the building so we can make phone calls in case power/internet/cell phone lines are down.
  • All staff participate in drills and training (classroom subs are provided emergency instructions too).
  • We have a Watch DOGS (Dad of a Great Student) helper at school almost every day keeping an eye out for safety concerns.

You still may have questions about our emergency preparedness at Creekside. Because of that, we are planning to have this be a topic of discussion at our PTA Association Meeting on Friday, March 23 at 8:15am. Please join us if you would like to learn more.
